Château D'Yquem

1938

Spring was very cold: it was 0°C on the 10th, 11th, 12th, and 19th of April, -1.1°C on the 22nd of April, and once again 0°C on the 1st and 2nd of May. This caused major damage, especially since the warmth in March had given a vigorous start to vegetative growth. The weather remained very cool throughout much of the growing season. The heavy downpour on the 28th and 29th of September (100 mm!), followed by several dry periods meant that the harvest could take place normally. Seven passes were necessary, including one when the vines were frozen. 38 Yquem is a refined, elegant wine.
