Château D'Yquem
1980
A year that was far colder than average, with a correspondingly late harvest. This began on the 20th of October with a "tidying-up pass" to remove any berries affected by sour rot. An easterly wind in early November finally concentrated the grapes and picking could start in earnest. Patience was rewarded with very satisfactory sugar levels and enough good lots to be able to make a beautiful wine.
