Château D'Yquem
1957
A year of great contrasts: warm in March, a quick start to the growing season, then cool weather until October. September showers triggered botrtytis under ideal conditions (1 day of rain in a month) and produced good concentration. There were three passes in October, but only a small quantity of grapes was harvested. The dry weather stopped the spread of botrytis and the tiny amount of rain that fell around the 1st of November did little to increase sugar levels. Wonderful quality in the long run, but a very minuscule crop (3 hl/ha).
