Château D'Yquem

1971

A very cold spring and frost in late April considerably slowed down the growth cycle. Very hot, dry weather in summer also delayed the harvest: on the 6th of October just enough grapes to make 9 barrels of wine were picked before a highly unusual pass lasting 11 straight days made it possible to bring in the rest of this very small, but excellent crop. The yield in 1971 was barely 5 hl/ha, but this truly beautiful Yquem displays a subtle balance between richness and vivaciousness.
